Fly Me to the Moon

Set against the backdrop of NASA’s Apollo 11 mission, Fly Me to the Moon explores the unlikely partnership between a driven marketing specialist (Scarlett Johansson) and a pragmatic NASA launch director (Channing Tatum). Together, they navigate high-stakes challenges, personal sacrifices, and the delicate balance between ambition and love.

As the primary in-house visual effects artist on the project, I worked closely with director Greg Berlanti and editor Harry Jierjian to visualize and iterate the world of the 1960’s space race. I began conceptualizing several aspects while production was still ongoing, knowing the film would require several CG environments, set extensions, and various assets to fit the time period, particularly focusing on Kennedy Space Center and the surrounding area. Given the vast scope of these scenes, as well as the Apollo 11 lunar landing sequence itself, I committed to Unreal Engine as the primary method of bringing this all to life, with all comping and additional CG work being completed inside After Effects.

I also assisted in bringing on additional artists to support as the workload grew, who assisted in temps and eventually completing in-house finals. We also created period accurate video elements for onset playback in the VAB firing room, as well as faithful recreations of 1969 broadcast elements for onset playback on television screens.
